The Versatile Word "UP"

There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is "UP."

It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report?

We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special.

And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night.

We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don't give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP.

When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP.

When it doesn't rain for awhile, things dry UP.

One could go on and on, but I'll wrap it UP, for now my time is UP, so............ Time to shut UP.....!

Up is always Up to no good... It is almost impossible to keep Up... Up does continue to live Up to his reputation of being notoriously omni-present in our speech and words... wonder if there is Up-side to our frequent reliance on UP!

I bet it's uplifting to have so much work in light of this economy, huh?

It is! As the company has downsized, they've left more and more up to me. It seems I can never catch up. Up till now, I'm working up to 2 hours of OT per day, with no let up in sight.

Wow! Hope that doesn't upset you because I would think the upshot of all that OT and responsibility is upward towards a promotion.

Up on seeing a new post, I came up with an idea. It's up to you to help me get up the nerve to up load some text to share every idea I've had up till just now. Im not a bit up tight about going up to the moment with fresh ideas, ....here's one:

I just had to add this......
Lala our pet deer........
she is now going on four years old......this year we had a lot of hunters......she now has only two deer...
as one was killed two years ago and this year one of the two little new ones was hit by a car and broke it's leg...
so I am supposing a cayote got it...because it was having a hard time keeping up with, What I call our little herd..
so when deer season begin.....they went to the woods....it was three weeks and we did not see any of them..
I kept on praying and believing.....
with so many out of work....we had a lot of deer hunters...a lot of gun fire...so I said to my self....that she may not come back this year.....

a lot of people out of work and deer is good to put on the table....but I kept praying and believing...
WELL, last night when we came home, it was dark and I was still sitting in the car.....WHEN There She was with
with Missy and Sally......all three were fat and had grown up....and I sat in the Car and Praised the Lord.

How Good is the Lord to Keep our precious pet deer.......they came up to the porch.....a little skiddish as they were out in the wild for severel weeks.....but came up and ate....I can't Praise the Lord enough....He is so Good and answers our prayers......NOW come spring we should have another batch.....at least four.....

How Great is Our God......and answers our prayers......we have an orange collar that we keep on Lala.....so hunters would see that she is a pet......
I just had to share.......and Praise the Lord....and keep on Believing........some times my faith wavers a little....and My Husband rebukes me..........He will Say......B she is fine......do you hear me.....Lala is Fine....and she Is...
we call things that are now as if they were.........Faith is a Substance....a substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen....God Honors Faith....Only Believe, amen
