Obopay--Go Mobile with Your Money.

Go mobile with your money.
That's the simple yet powerful idea behind Obopay.
Obopay is the first truly comprehensive mobile payment service in the United States. That means we're the only service that lets you instantly get, send and spend money anywhere, anytime with anyone.

With Obopay you can instantly pay back a friend, split a dinner bill, get money from your parents, get quick cash, pay up or collect on a friendly wager, track purchases, check your balance, and much, much more. And, you can do it all from your phone; anywhere, anytime with anyone.

The Obopay Story
Obopay is not your ordinary brainchild. It didn't happen in a conference room or during a grueling brainstorming session. The concept for Obopay happened while Carol Realini, Obopay's founder and CEO, was doing volunteer work in Africa. It was there she observed an interesting phenomenon: people living in some of the most remote corners of the world carried a mobile phone even if they didn't carry a wallet. Combining the two seemed like an ideal marriage of empowerment and convenience. And that's when the idea for Obopay was born. Returning to the U. S. she saw incredible opportunities within the ever-growing mobile youth market. Although Carol had not planned on rejoining the work force after a three decade run as a successful entrepreneur, her passion for this new idea changed her mind. She pulled together an all-star team of seasoned mobile and financial professionals, raised venture capital and successfully launched Obopay in 2005.

Guess I will be broke then, since I don't have a cell phone.

This is mainly being used to facilitate transactions in other countries. My concern is what if it catches on?

I realize Obopay was launched in 2005, well prior to our president gaining national attention to any degree, but man....how freaky, my first impression while reading the OP was that it was named after our president, OBOma. Probaby just a weird coincidence, but I don't have much trust, and so, obopay will now go on my watch list and remain suspicious! Its just too coincidental for me to brush it aside.

I was talking about this with my father who is a chash money guy and typically has it stashed rather than in banks. He said immediately another angle in this is the bring all underground trasactions above ground. His term was to "bring all the matress money out". I would imagine anyone who stores cash would be holding their life savings in worthless currency or be forced to exchange it in on discounted digital or new currency.

I would imagine Gold and especially silver would be used for blackmarket trasnactions. Barter systems will bgin to spring up out of necessity and were a big part of exchange after the collapes of the soviet union.

John 20:27-29 27Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD and my God. 29Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

I would expect food and services being used more for a blackmarket barter system then gold and silver. In a cashless society, wouldn't gold and silver too become pretty much useless? Maybe silver, it has some good uses, but what good is gold for besides looking pretty?

I'm hoping "Obo" has nothing to do with "Obama." It would give new meaning to "the number of his name."
