WD-40

WD-40 is great for lots of things other than just lubricating tools.

1) It polishes stainless steel beautifully. I use it for polishing stainless steel kitches appliances.

2) It polishes aluminum beautifully. My lanai is screened in and the aluminum tracks get ucky. I clean them with WD-40 to protect them from pitting cause it's so humid down here.

3) It polishes bathroom tile beautifully. You can use it in the shower (not on the floor tile - too slippery) and it repels soap scum nicely.

4) It also works to clean the gooey residue from price stickers on items purchased. Or if you want to remove the label from a jar (i.e. peanut butter or mayo) after soaking it in water, use it to remove the sticky residue. We store a lot of things in jars in Florida to discourage little bugs. ewwww

I got their tips for a long time and then they eventually stopped for some reason. But I did learn to experiment with WD-40 and found a number of uses that I never would have expected like cleaning the glass shower doors.

Let us know about any tips you learn, Salty!

Does it remove the soap scum from shower doors? I was cleaning my bathroom and have a real problem with our glassed in shower.

Here is a link to their website.

Spray WD-40 around the base of faucets to remove lime build-up. Wait a few minutes and use a wooden ice cream stick to remove the stains. Be sure to wipe the faucet base with a dry cloth when you’re done.

This will be VERY helpful. I wonder if Sam's sells WD-40 in bulk? :bounce:

I don't remember if it actually "removes" it, but it wouldn't hurt to try it. I do know that wiping the doors afterward protects it from future scum buildup - as does a good furniture polish.

I try WD40 on lots of things. Can't hurt!

I also heard to clean bathroom mirrors with furniture polish and they won't fog up. I tried it and it cleaned the mirrors and it smelled good. Didn't really pay attention to the fogging up part. I tried it out on a mirror that is in a half bath, not much chance of it fogging up, unless you turned the tap on really hot for a long time. haha

However, watch anything that is painted you use it on...it contains chemicals which will strip finish and paint very quickly...this includes dye on clothes.

This stuff has saved me more skinned knuckles on stuck bolts than I can count. In fact, the Tin Woodman was really using it instead of simple oil, that's why he danced so well....hee hee

WD40 is good, but there's a product that's better for loosening rusted bolts that you can get a Nappa Auto Parts. I can't remember the name at this minute, but when I do, I'll let you know in case you want to try it.

I was reading the back of my bottle of Lemon Oil and it said it was good for removing water stains on shower doors.

I'll have to try that and see if it works. Not a lot mind you.

Citrus works on soap, due to the fact that anything with acid in it, can take an oily substance and make it disolve easier in water.

For instance, hot peppers are hot due to oil, that's why drinking water doesn't help, but if you use a lemon or something with acid in it, it will lower the pH and make the oil able to be washed away with water, that is why some soap scum but also hard water stains get wasted away easier.

Ok this one is pretty bizzare but, my grandmother used wd40 on her joints. She would rub it in daily to her knees, elbows, etc. She swore by it and she lived to be in her 90's so I dont think the toxic level could be that high.

Wow! These ideas are great! I've used hairspray on bugs before, it stops 'em dead in their tracks. Its kinda fun to see them trying to move after spraying them...Okay, so I'm truly a kid at heart! Anyone see Ant Bully?
