Hi Ready1,
Good to see you back and hear your cheery "voice" again. The scriptures that I posted had a clear reference to the "Day of the Lord". I appreciate your posting and recognize that many other passages refer to this time frame, especially those that refer to "that day". eg
Nice to see you still around as well. Love your laid back style. I was taking a bit of liberty with this statement.
If you use other scriptures, post them.
I use other scripture to show the DOTL so was posting part of them. I think many people get so caught up with the rapture they fail to realize exactly what Jesus taught about His second coming. There are clear references in scripture that the "Day of the Lord" is the second coming of Jesus.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
1Th 5:5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
1Th 5:6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. Paul is teaching about the second coming of Jesus as is clear from 1Th 4:16. But of the times and seasons they have no need for Paul to write to them. For they themselves know that the "day of the Lord"...Paul equates the descending of Jesus from heaven with the DOTL.
2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
2Pe 3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. The promise of His coming is a clear reference to the return of Jesus.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.Peter also very clearly equates the second coming of Christ to the "Day of the Lord". Not only that He adds that the earth and everything in it is also burned up. The very elements themselves melt with fervant heat. Paul and Peter are about as official as it gets.
2Th 1:7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2Th 1:8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2Th 1:9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
2Th 1:10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.Here again we see the return of Jesus associated with fiery vengence collaborating the words of Peter concerning the fervant heat. And we see the judgment of God being dispenced upon the sinners. This connects the return of Jesus to the wrath of God. That can be verified in Rev 6.
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.We have the sun/moon/stars darkened immediately after the tribulation that started at the AOD. The AOD is the middle of the last 7 years. So after the 3 1/2 year trib is over then the sun is darkened. We see that same event in Rev 6.
Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?Matt 24 tells us Jesus does not return until after the sun/moon/stars have been darkened. We see that happening in Rev 6. So we can know that the trib is over because these cosmic signs occur "immediately" after the 3 1/2 year trib. Also the 5th seal shows some waiting to be martyred just before the cosmic signs which mark the end of the great tribulation. It starts in the middle so 3 1/2 years past the middle gets us to the end of the last 7 years for the occuring of the cosmic signs. After the cosmic signs in Matt 24 Jesus returns. After the cosmic signs in Rev 6 Jesus returns. He is returning in wrath in Rev 6 just as He is in 2Th 1. The second coming of the new testiment is simply the DOTL of the OT. So everything we read about the DOTL in the OT refers to the events leading up to the return of Jesus. Does that bear out in the OT? Yes perfectly.
Joe 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
Joe 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call.The DOTL occurs after the cosmic signs here in Joel. This matches the description in both Matt 24 and Rev 6 that show the cosmic signs just prior to the return of Christ. Remember Christ was answering two questions that the disciples asked Him in Matt 24.
Mat 24:1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
Mat 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?When will these things happen and what will be the sign of His coming AND of the end of the world. The disciples also associated the return of Christ with the end of the world.
Mat 24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
Mat 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.Jesus clearly said it was the "end". We know for sure Jesus raptures the saints during His second coming. The dead in Christ will rise first then we which remain and are alive. So before we can be gathered in Matt 24 the resurrection will have to have occured. When does Jesus say the resurrection is?
John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 11:24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.Jesus describes the resurrection as occuring on the last day. We aren't raptured until they are resurrected on the last day. So we aren't raptured until at least the last day. Where else do we see a resurrection in the bible?
Rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
Rev 20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
Rev 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.The first resurrection doesn't occur until after Armageddon in Rev 19 and Satan thrown into the bottomless pit in Rev 20. So the "first" resurrection does not occur until after the defeat of the AC. Does that make sense in light of other scripture? When is the AC destroyed in other scripture?
Rev 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.Jesus and the armies of heaven leave from heaven and head toward earth.
Rev 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.So after leaving heaven and heading to earth Jesus defeats the AC and company.
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:Jesus destroys the AC with the brightness of His arrival just as we see depicted in Rev 19. Then we see the resurrection of those who refused the MOB in Rev 20:4. So Jesus dispences the wrath of God (as in Rev 6) and then the resurrection. So indeed the resurrection is part of the DOTL. Remember the dead in Christ have to rise before we can be raptured. The dead in Christ are resurrected in Rev 20:4 at the "first" resurrection. So that makes the arrival of Christ for sure the same set of events described as the day of the Lord as I have shown clearly through the above posted scriptures. They say what they say I just read what it says and believe that every word means precisely what it says in the everyday normal sense. There are plenty of scriptures that back the connection between the second coming of Christ and the OT DOTL.
