hmm...it is my belief that some mental illness is actually demon possession, but certainly not all. What that woman did, I think would be demon possession. With normal psychosis I would imagine killing the baby, perhaps, but not cutting the poor kid's arms off like that, and then listening to a hymn whilst holding the murder weapon and dripping with blood. That sounds like a clear-cut case of demonic control to me (I'm certainly no expert, though).

However, that simply does not excuse the father's or pastor's actions. The authorities ought to have been immediately informed. Anything dealing with the woman being medicated could have been dealt with during the trial.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
I am almost inclined to believe this statement because of the universal facial trait that all hardened criminals and mentally ill people seem to share: crazy eyes, or one normal looking eye and the other one looks pure evil. Maybe it's a misnomer or myth, but I have heard that when looking into the eyes of a demon possessed person, you can feel something supernatural looking back at you.

Another possible myth: possessed people cannot audibly say the phrase, “Jesus Christ is the only Lord".
Does anyone think that multiple personality disorder (schizophrenia) could possibly just be multiple demons inhabiting a person? I think this is possible because usually when a different 'personality' takes over, the original person has no idea what their body is doing when that 'personality' is in charge. This may sound crazy to non-believers (non-Christians), but the Bible doesn't speak of 'crazy' people ... but it does speak of demon-possessed people.

I also agree with Bob the Quiet in that not all mental illness is demon possession. Sometimes a persons brain chemicals could be imbalanced, which could easily be corrected with vitamins or prescription medication. But I believe the extreme cases in which people do horrible, horrible acts against other human beings is definitely demon possession.
Cantaress4Him
Or if they do horrible things to themselves, even if they don't harm anyone else. Demons want to see people harmed in general, after all.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
So my son with Autism is demon possessed? The same son who accepted Jesus, studies scripture daily, and would like to become a missionary.

Of course. There is an example of this type of thing in the Bible. Mark 5:9

Quote:
9And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many.

I don't think anyone could say that. There are all kinds of disorders that children are born with or are a result of a MEDICAL condition. Isn't Autism a medical condition, not JUST a mental disorder? There are also things like ADHD, Dyslexia, etc that I wouldn't say are demons. (At least not absolutely.)

BUT I don’t think it is possible for anyone to cut the arms off of their baby unless there are demons at work.
Shannon
aka Yuppie Sim
www.YuppieSims.com
Edited by: yuppiesim at: 2/16/06 12:11 pm

javierruizleon,

I have a 14-year-old nephew who is autistic and he knows that Jesus loves him and I believe he is saved. However, he does complain of voices telling him horrible things in his mind about God and other things. He is in so much torment sometimes, it's really sad.

I do not believe that he is possessed, but rather oppressed, just like a lot of Christians are, but in different degrees.

As I stated earlier, I don't believe that all mental illness is demon possession. I'm sorry you took it that way.
Let me just add that autism, cerebral palsy, brain injury, etc., are all caused by a harmful internal or external "physical" occurrence happening to the brain. It would be stupid to say that people in those situations are possessed by demons!
Cantaress4Him
javie, no one is saying that autism is demonic.

It is interesting to think...physicians who are not religious at all, not Christian...well, they want to put a label on the behaviour, but if they are not looking at things with the discernment of the holy spirit, than it seems like they would come up with a clinical diagnosis for something that they otherwise cannot explain.
I know! It's terrible that a little baby would have to endure such a horrible thing! It would be bad enough for the kid's mom to kill him in general, even if in more a 'quick and painless' way, but cutting his arms off?
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
