The picture attached to the piece intrigued me more than the commentary. Although the subject of the article was the European Union, the picture was of a lone man standing at the crossroads. The fact is, what's true for an individual can be true for a nation. And the picture reminded me of something Jesus once said. He said: Now when the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places, seeking rest, and does not find it. Then it says, "I will return to my house from which I came"; and when it comes, it finds it unoccupied, swept, and put in order. Then it goes, and takes along with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first. Here Jesus was talking about what can happen to one individual. But, then He applies it to all of Israel. He says: That is the way it will also be with this evil generation (Matthew 12: 43-45 New American Standard Bible). Here's my point: God has blessed the world through the knowledge of His Son Jesus Christ. As the true Gospel spread, so has true freedom and hope. In time the mighty Roman Empire fell at the feet of the cross it had created. And in time the light of Christ reached the farthest island of the sea. Now this writer says Europe is once again standing at the crossroads, not knowing which way to go. And the writer suggested that the EU consult a group of "wise men" for direction Read about it here. You would think by now the EU's leaders would know better. You would think by now they would know from where their freedom came -- they would know who to ask. Nevertheless, they're standing at the crossroads. I guess that's the way it will be with this generation. 01-29-04
