What Herb thinks
Dream In Greek

I was once told a person wasn't intimate with Greek until they could dream in Greek. That was about thirty years ago. At the time I was attempting to teach myself  Greek. Why? Because I thought if  I knew Greek, no one could throw their knowledge of Greek at me when arguing over the meaning of Scripture.

But when I heard a person didn't really know Greek until they could dream in Greek, I realized my foolishness. Even if I did manage to learn a little Greek, that wouldn't make me an expert. For questions about language interpretation, I would still have to yield to the experts -- just like everyone else.

That's true also of the Bible. Today we have many experts on the Bible. But, are they? How intimate are they with God's word? Is their knowledge of Scripture based primarily on academics -- on the studies of others? Or, is their knowledge based on many long hours alone, wearing out their third, fourth and fifth Bible?

I haven't worn out that many Bibles yet. But, after reading it everyday now for close to forty years, I'm getting there. And though I never did learn to dream in Greek, I've become fairly intimate with what God has to say.

That's why it bothers me when I see so many younger Christians today placing their trust in prophecy teachers who, I believe, aren't as intimate with Scripture as some think. You see, the majority of the criticism I receive is from followers of these teachers. And the majority of the support I receive is from pastors and teachers who agree with me, but don't dare speak out.

Why don't they speak out? Because if they did, they risk loosing their following and their financial support. You see, "pop prophecy" is financially where it's at today. And in order to get the approval of the evangelical powers that be, you must yield to the flow.

The bottom line is, we live in a day when you either adjust you're views on end-times prophecy to the modern, popular view, or you accept not being recognized. And this is something many first time book authors and Website designer are not willing to do. So, they find a way to conform.

I'd rather dream in Greek.

Hope you would too.
