If the spiritual situation in America isn't bad enough, take a look at what's going on in Europe. It seems the EU beast is getting religion. And, it isn't the religion of the Bible. As I've said before, the EU beast is a strange creature. And, it keeps getting stranger. When I first started reporting, the EU beast had 15 rotating heads and 10 horns. It still has its 10 horns. But, today, it has 25 rotating heads. And, they all still want --- the 25 heads and the 10 horns -- to go a different direction. This is where the little horn comes in. You see, in 1998, a single office was created within the EU beast for the purpose of coordinating the actions of its multiple heads and 10 horns. It was the office of High Representative of Common Foreign and Security Policy. And, if things weren't already strange enough, this new office was codified under the biblical number 666. Recently, Javier Solana, the man who first occupied this office, stated that the EU should support creating mechanisms that would prevent the defamation of religion. Solana was reacting to what has become known as the "Cartoon Intifada". If you recall, the Islamic world felt insulted when newspapers in the Netherlands published cartoons that depicted the Prophet Mohammed as a terrorist. Ironically, terror and riots followed. Here's where I believe US President Bush and the EU's Solana have something in common. Neither allow their religious views to get in the way of what they feel must be done. Bush is a professing Christian. Solana, I suspect, is an atheist. Foremost, however, both are pragmatic. Such is the way of world leaders. So, Bush endorses the creation of a Palestinian state on the ancient land of Israel, and Solana calls for the EU to become more religious friendly. As a result, the incoming Finish presidency will change directions Read about it here. In July, the EU beast gets religion. 03-20-06
