What Herb thinks
Geo-Political Jesus

Jesus said:

You search the Scripture, because you think in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me; and you are unwilling to come to Me, that you may have life (John 5: 39-40 New American Standard Bible).

Friends, the real Jesus was, and still is, a geo-political Jesus. He is the Eternal One who, from our ancient beginnings, has been walking with us through real-time history.

The Apostle John understood this Jesus. He said:

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God ... In Him was life, and the life was the light of men (John 1:1-4).

In the books of Daniel and Revelation we again discover His geo-political nature. Here we find Him revealing real time, geo-political events in advance of their occurrence. It's called Bible prophecy. In fact, about a quarter of God's Word was prophetic when given.

When Israel was taken captive into Babylon, we even find our Lord of Glory giving His light of understanding to the pagan King Nebuchadnezzar. And, as long as He could work with this king, He allowed Nebuchadnezzar to continue his rule. However, when our Lord could no longer work with Nebuchadnezzar's son Belshazzar, heaven's court sat, God's decree came, and the Babylonian Empire was given to others (Daniel chapters 2-5).

According to the the book of Daniel, these events were repeated two more times with two more Gentile kingdoms -- Medo-Persia and Greece. With each of these Gentile empires there came a day when heaven's court sat, God's decree came, and the empire was given to another.

Our Lord also reveals in Daniel there is one remaining Gentile kingdom that He must in like fashion deal with -- the Roman Empire. However, this time when heaven's court sits (Revelation chapters 4-5) and this fourth and last kingdom is judged, it won't be given to another earthly king. It will be given to our Lord Jesus Himself. And, His kingdom will be eternal and never given to another (Daniel 7:9-14).

That's because it will be a righteous kingdom.

And, He's a geo-political Jesus.
