Prime Minister Arial Sharon thinks he understands. He thinks it's time for Israel to get engaged. The question is, who to? You see, when Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza, a dangerous security vacuum will be created. The question is, who will fill this vacuum. In fact, I suspect this is one reason Sharon recently took out the two top leaders of Hamas. Israel doesn't want Hamas filling the vacuum. I also suspect this may explain why Sharon fired a warning shot at Arafat -- that he might be targeted next. Sharon doesn't want Arafat in total control of Gaza either. Nevertheless, Sharon's Gaza pull-out will happen. We know this because recently British PM Tony Blair met with Sharon and endorsed the plan. Then President George Bush met Sharon and also endorsed it. Next Javier Solana rushed to Washington with the message that, although the EU wouldn't endorse the plan, the EU wanted to get engaged. And then UN officials began saying they wanted to get engaged too. Suddenly, everybody and their dog wanted to get engaged with Israel. What did Sharon do with so many proposals? He did what any concerned father would do. He became picky. He said he wants a friendly country like the US for Israel to get engaged to Read about it here. Yes indeed, it look's like Israel's getting engaged. Problem is, her true bridegroom hasn't returned yet. 04-24-04
