What Herb thinks
Hear The EU Spirit

High Representative Javier Solana is reported to have said the 25 EU member states should represent the "spirit of the EU" when at the UN, and not their own national interests Read about it here.

Solana said this was especially true with France and the UK who are both permanent members of the UN Security Council. Solana said:

If France and the UK can not find a common position, then there will not be a common EU position.

In the past Solana has proposed combining the two permanent seats of France and the UK into one seat for the EU -- in other words, for him. I say this because Solana's job is to represent the combined interests of the many EU member states.

I don't know about you, but this report spooked me a little. The reason it spooked me is because it reminded me of something Jesus said.

The Apostle John had a vision of Jesus walking among seven lampstands that represented His seven churches in Asia Minor (Revelation chapter 1). And John was told to deliver letters from Jesus to these seven churches. We find these letters in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. And although Jesus says different things to each church, He ends all seven letters with the same phrase. Jesus says:

Hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

You see, Jesus wants His churches to represent Him on this earth, and not their own interests. So, Jesus tells us to stay tuned to what the Spirit says.

Now Solana is basically telling the 25 EU heads the same thing. Solana is saying, hear what the EU spirit says to the member states.

It's kind of spooky.
