Have you ever gone to bed early simply because you couldn't take it anymore? I have. In fact, I've been doing it a lot lately. Our physical bodies can only take so much. And, when you've arrived at my age, the limitations become more obvious. Fortunately, God provided a cure. It's called sleep. And, when I awake in the morning, I'm a different person -- I'm renewed. Although my circumstances haven't changed, I have. And, once again, my old body is ready to take on the world. If we are believers in Christ, we also have a spiritual side to our being. But, unlike our physical side, our spiritual side doesn't need sleep. In fact, we are warned in the Bible against spiritual sleep. You see, the Bible says Christians who have passed away sleep. That's because, deceased believers in Christ -- like those who sleep -- still live. But, they are unconscious to their physical surroundings. My point is, we Christians have no business sleeping spiritually. Yes, we can sleep physically, but not spiritually. When we sleep spiritually, many dangers await us. You see, the Spirit of Christ not only gives life to our mortal bodies, He gives light to our physical feet. He even gives us understanding in these confusing and troubled times Read about it here. No, we won't be perfect. And, sometimes we may even stumble and walk in darkness like the rest. But, as the Apostle Paul says, "Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!" You see, in Christ Jesus, God's mercies are new every morning. So, let's awake from our sleep. It's only just begun. 08-28-05
