When Liberals Aren't Liberals

Question: When is a liberal not a liberal?

Answer: When the liberal lives in Europe instead of America.

In July of last year I wrote a commentary titled,"The Liberal's Last Stand" (Read it here). It was about the then incoming European Union presidency of the Danish prime minister Andes Fogh Rasmussen. Because I read Rasmussen was a liberal, I brilliantly concluded the incoming Danish presidency would be "left-leaning."

Well, this morning I found out I was wrong. According to an email I received from Ireland this morning under the heading, "What a load of codswallop!!!!," I was told in Europe a liberal isn't a liberal like in America. In Europe a liberal is a type of conservative and the social-democrats are the ones who are on the left. So, Rasmussen is definately not as I described him to be in my commentary -- "left-leaning."

Count this American corrected. In Europe a liberal isn't a liberal.

Actually, I appreciate it when someone takes the time to contact me -- even if it's to correct me. My goal is to be accurate. But, I naturally will make mistakes and I want to know about it when I do.

There was something about this person's email that did bother me though. He accused me of spreading anti-Europeanism. And, he said as a Christian he resented that I used the Bible to prop up my anti-European views.

I'm sorry if he got this message from my site. I want people to know my intention is not to spread anti-Europeanism or offend anyone. Although I stand by my view that I believe the Bible clearly teaches this revival of the Roman Empire we are witnessing today will become the kingdom of the coming Antichrist, that doesn't make me anti-European.

In fact, if you've been following my commentaries, you know lately I've associated my own dearly loved country -- America -- with the second beast of end-times Bible prophecy -- Babylon. And, I'm definitely not anti-American.

So, I'm not preaching anti-Europeanism. I'm preaching my understanding of the Bible prophecies. And, if that offends people, I am truly sorry.

Let me clarify that: I'm sorry they are offended.

I'm not sorry for doing it.
