The key to understanding the following is to remember that the goal of the international community is to bring Israel back to the borders she held on the morning June 5, 1967 -- the day the Six Day War began. For the European Union (EU), the policy started at their Vienna Summit in December of 1998. This is where the Office of High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy was created and given its Mediterranean mandate. And, as I've been reporting, out of over 1150 documents generated at the summit, the document that established this post was number 666 -- not plus or minus.
The EU's Mediterranean policy continued when in June of 2000, the 10-nation Western European Union (WEU) adopted its Assembly Recommendation 666 -- not plus or minus. This document recommended making the 10-nation WEU alliance the military wing of the EU. And, it recommended that the High Representative be given emergency powers. Ironically, the recommendation was adopted on June 5 -- the anniversary of the Six Day War.
In September of 2005, the four powers known as the Quartet -- the US, the EU, the UN and the Russian Federation -- held a joint press conference at the United Nations in New York. At this meeting the Quartet decided that the EU would send forces to guard the border crossing between Gaza and the Egyptian border. This would be the first deployment of the EU's new military into the Middle East. That year the UN was commemorating the Security Council's sixty years of sessions. The UN's logo was a six followed by a zero in the form of a globe. Three logos were placed directly on the wall behind the Quartet. The result was a large 666 -- not plus or minus. On August 2, 2006, the EU's second military deployment into the Middle East was approved -- this time into southern Lebanon. It was done with Council Conclusion No. 66/06 -- not plus or minus. This brings us to today's news. It appears the EU may be preparing for an even larger military presence in the Middle East. The report says: The European Union is set to launch a drive this week to revive long-stalled Middle East peace negotiations based on the principle of a return to Israel's 1967 borders, EU officials say. At an informal meeting in Finland on Friday and Saturday, foreign ministers of the 25-nation bloc will discuss how to leverage their increased military presence in southern Lebanon to gain more political clout in future peacemaking. And, just what is it that the EU wants to do? EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana wants to create momentum for fresh talks based on the goals of a two-state solution and a return to 1967 borders "plus or minus agreed minor adjustments" Read about it here. I guess Solana will allow for a little wiggle room in restoring Israel's borders to how they were on the morning of June 5, 1967. But, you know what? God seems to be pretty precise in His numbers. For example, take a look at all those strange appearances of the number of Bible prophecy connected with the EU's Mediterranean policy. The number is 666 -- no plus or minus.. 08-31-2006
