Old Europe or Old Spirit?

What a quote! It's reported Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel actually said, "When one has to take a slap in the face ... by Mr Rumsfeld who comes to teach a thing or two to 'old Europe' - the Europe of democratic values, humanist Europe, the Europe of the Age of Enlightenment - personally I find that this hurts" (Read about it here)

Perhaps only a Bible believing child of God could truly appreciate the irony in this quote. Here we have a representative of the arrogant little nation that is trying to claim universal jurisdiction for her courts over the entire world (Read about it here), hurt when US Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld refered to some European nations as "old Europe."

Rumsfeld and US officials were shocked to learn that Belgium was planing on preventing NATO from providing military aid to Turkey should the US go to war against Iraq. Since Turkey is a full member of NATO, the US called Belgium's move both "shameful" and "inexcusable." The US fears this rift in NATO over Iraq may do lasting damage to an important alliance that has brought peace to Europe.

This explains why Rumsfeld called it "old Europe" coming back. However, I think Rumsfeld may be wrong -- it's not old Europe coming back, it's the old spirit. What do I mean?

If you know your history, you may recall how the blood of the martyr's flowed when the courts of the Low Countries, now Holland and Belgium, exercised their judicial powers by enforcing the Spanish Inquisition (Read about it here). Now here we have these same courts back, and wanting universal jurisdiction!

Some may feel it's not fair to compare modern Belgium to the old. Well, let's look at what Michel said" He said, "Europe of democratic values, humanist Europe, the Europe of the Age of Enlightenment."

The first thing Michel should explain to us, if what we're seeing is truly a "Europe of democratic values," why is his nation the seat of power for a very non democratic institution  -- the European Union -- that is seeking to gain dictatorial-like control over the other nations of Europe?

As far as "humanist Europe," that's even worse. You see, humanism is a religion -- a Godless religion. Humanism exalts man in the place of God. It makes man the final authority on earth. In the Bible the number for man is six. And, the coming Anti-christ's number will be 666. In other words, the coming Anti-christ, the person who will make Hitler look like a Sunday school teacher, will also be a good humanist.

And, concerning Michel's reference to the "Age of Enlightenment," I have to laugh. After all, it sure isn't the Bible believing people in the US, those Michel's would say were less enlightened, who are willingly giving up their nation identity and sovereignty to global institutions. It's Michel's modern enlightened leaders of Europe who are doing this.

In fact, it's the Bible believers in the world who know what's really going on in Europe -- the fulfillment of the prophecies concerning the return of the Roman Empire and the rise of the Anti-christ.

So, Belgian Foreign Minister Louis Michel isn't concerned about NATO anymore because he was hurt by Rumsfeld's remark about "old Europe."

Perhaps this enlightened individual should be more concerned about that "old spirit."

It's back.
