What Herb thinks
Our Common Faith

Yesterday's commentary was about something negative -- about something that divides us. It was about false prophets and apostles in our own evangelical churches. Today's commentary is about something positive that unites us -- especially here at FulfilledProphecy.

When reading the Gospel accounts, I notice how those who recognized Jesus as their Messiah were those who believed in Bible prophecy. They may not have had all the prophecies lined up in their mind's exactly right, but nevertheless they believed in them.

I find the same thing when reading the posts on FulfilledProphecy's discussion board. We may not all agree on all the fine details of Bible prophecy, but we all believe in it. And, it is this common belief in prophecy that unites us.

When Jesus appeared in Israel, it wasn't exactly as everyone expected. This being the case, it shouldn't surprise us if His second coming isn't exactly as expected either. For us the bottom line is, Jesus will come again. And when He does, He will fulfill all the promises of our common faith.

In the mean time, we have to be ready. We have to be like a bride waiting for her groom. Our hope isn't in our understanding of the Bible and world events -- our hope is in Jesus. Our understanding of Bible prophecy and world events may change. But, our hope in Jesus doesn't change. That's because the Bible tells us He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

Here's my point: We are living in dangerous and confusing times. In fact, Jesus Himself warned us in the end-times many will fall away from the faith. And, most of us here believe we may be in those end-times Jesus was talking about. And if this is the case, we need to be prepared.

How can we be prepared? There is only one way. We need to place all our trust on Jesus and God's word. This means, if we don't pray and read the Bible regularly, we need to start.

You see, when the final events of the end-times begin, there won't be anything we will be able to do about it. The only thing we will be able to do is have faith.

Are we ready?
