Momentum appears to be gathering to bring EU/NATO forces into the Israeli/Palestinians conflict. If you recall, earlier this month at NATO's Munich Conference the Palestinian Foreign Minister said Palestine should be invited to join the European Union. Now the Palestinian Prime Minister is officially asking the EU for international peacekeepers to be deployed in Gaza and the West Bank Read about it here. It's becoming harder to avoid the conclusion that America is intentionally drawing back from the peace process to allow the EU in. This is what I think: For one thing, the Bush Administration realizes the coming election could be close. And, if Bush isn't re-elected, his ability to help Israel is over anyway. So in order to get re-elected, he can't afford to anger his evangelical Christian base by being seen as the one forcing Israel to give up her land. For another thing, Washington desperately needs the help of the international community in Iraq. In order to gain the help of the international community, Bush will have to give something in return. And as I've been reporting, I believe that something in return is allowing the EU to play a bigger role in the Israeli/Palsestinian peace process. You know what? It's like we're all living through an end-times movie. And this is the ironic part: Millions of Christians today are going into theaters to watch end-times movies being produced by their trusted spiritual leaders, when instead they should be watching the real thing. That's scary! I said in my prior commentary, I'll say it again. It's time for us to get real. 02-18-04
