What Herb thinks
Rush to Peace

In times as these, remaining biblically focused can be hard. With so many potentially significant reports to chose between, it's very easy to get sidetracked. Nevertheless, it's our job to try.

What seems to stand out more than anything is the fact that our world suddenly appears to be in a mad rush for peace -- unlike anything that I've seen before. The smell of desperation is filling the air. And, most of it seems to be coming from Iraq Read about it here.

Yet, Bible prophecy mostly deals with God's purpose for Israel. In fact, the prophecies tell us that, in the end-time, all the nations of earth will gather against Jerusalem. That's why I find it so amazing that, despite the fact that the conflict in Iraq is the primary concern, the world community is instead wanting to first settling the Israeli/Palestinian dispute Read about it here  I  And here. And, at the center of this dispute is Old Jerusalem. In the O.T. we read:

Behold, I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that causes reeling to all the peoples around; and when the siege is against Jerusalem, it will also be against Judah. It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured and all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it (Zechariah 12: 2-3 New American Standard Bible).

Today the leaders of our world are gathering. And, not only are they starting to gather against Jerusalem, in the UN's Alliance of Civilizations they're also starting to gather against God's elect Read about it here. Yes, there is much today that we could write about. But, I don't think much writing is necessary.

We're in a rush to peace.

Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. But you, brethren, are not in darkness, that the day would overtake you like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness; so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober (1 Thessalonians 5: 1-6).
