The Selling of Solana World Begins

It was like reading from my book, Recommendation 666. There it was, an account of the intriguing rise of the EU's first High Representative, Javier Solana. And, it was a major story posted on the Internet by the Financial Times (Read about it here). (A subscription site).

But, that wasn't the only major article appearing relating to Solana. The day before the Guardian, another online newspaper, posted an article written by Solana titled "Atlantic Drift." Evidently, Solana wrote this article to coincide with the Progressive Governance Conference where he would be a speaker (Read about it here)

This is what I think: The new, super EU is on the near horizon. The EU heads are beginning to make all the important decisions about the future of the EU's foreign and security policy -- including who will become their new foreign minister.

Recently, while Solana was off flying around and doing his job, there was a sudden flurry of media reports predicting Germany's current foreign minister, Joschka Fischer, would become this new foreign minister (Read about it here). Why? According to one report I read, it was Germany's turn to have someone with a high-profile position at the helm of the EU.

Think about it: Whoever these forces were who were pushing Fischer for foreign minister, they were willing to choose a person for this important post not because of any qualifications, but because it was Germany's turn. This was a crazy idea I didn't think could fly.

On June 19, Solana's campaign to be the EU's new foreign minister sprang to life. This is when Solana delivered his new, 10-page security doctrine to the EU heads at their summit in Greece. It was titled, "A Secure Europe in a Better World."

Solana's doctrine had three basic parts. First, it called for the EU to contribute more resources to establishing economic and political stability in their neighborhood. Second, it called on the EU to build an international order. And third, it called for the EU to strengthen its civil and military capacity to deal with the threat of weapons of mass destruction and rogue states. And, the moment the EU heads heard it, they all fell in love with it.

Next, Solana traveled to Washington for the EU/US summit. Soon the US had signed a treaty that had Solana's new EU security doctrine written all over it.

A few days later it was announced that Solana had negotiated a treaty between the EU, NATO and Russia that would establish a pan-European catastrophe center. This huge center would include both civilian and military elements from every nation on the European continent  (Read about it here)

Then on July 6, I read something suggesting Fischer's dream of becoming the EU's new foreign minister may have received its fatal blow. The Islamic Republic News Agency ( IRNA) reported that America, Britain and other pro-American European allies were planing on blocking Fischer from becoming the EU's new foreign minister. The report also said US national security advisor Condoleeza Rice was opposed to Fischer (Read about it here).

If you recall, Fischer openly and loudly opposed the US and Britain in the UN Security Council over the Iraqi War. Solana, on the other hand, wisely understood that for Europe to rise to take her place on the world stage, she will need the help both America and Britain.

This weekend, Solana will be in London attending the Progressive Governance Conference being hosted by British Prime Minister Tony Blair. What will he be doing? He'll be pitching his pro-Atlantic security doctrine and new "world order" scheme to many of the world's top leftist leaders.

And, in the mean time, both the Financial Times and the Guardian have posted major articles on the Internet showing Solana in a very favorable light.

Yes, the selling of Solana World begins.
