The geo-political sand is still shifting.With the collapse of the Soviet empire came a rush of instability that has yet to settle. The intrigue surrounding the recent death of former Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic is an example. Evidently, Milosevic's death may have been medically induced. In other words, Milosevic may have been poisoned. The only question is, who did it. Did Milosevic, as this article suggests Read about it here, do it to himself? Or, did someone else do it, as elements in Russia are suggesting Read about it here?

If you recall, this isn't the first time accusations of poisoning have popped up in this ongoing East/West struggle. It is widely believed that the Ukrainian opposition leader, Viktor A. Yushchenko, was poisoned with dioxin. The difference being, Yushchenko was seen as being on the side of the Western powers and joining the EU. Milosevic, on the other hand, was seen as being on the side of the old Eastern bloc powers and Russia. Catching on?

Where does the EU's Javier Solana stand on the East/West divide? This is where it gets interesting. Solana, if you recall, was a former Marxist who fought against Spain joining NATO. In other words, Solana appeared to be on the Eastern side. Later, Solana shifted to the West. He became Secretary General of NATO -- the organization he once tried to destroy. In fact, Solana was the man who gave the orders for NATO's war against Milosevic's Serbia to begin. This being the case, it might be now said that Solana is personally responsible for Milosevic's war crimes trail in the first place.

What brought this sudden change of mind in Solana about? I don't know. But, I do know this: At the 1998 Vienna summit, while Solana was still head of NATO, the EU heads created the office of High Representative that Solana now occupies. Out of over 1150 documents from Vienna, this document they numbered 666. Included in the new office was a Russian, Ukraine, Balkans and Mediterranean mandate. And, it appears in the process of fulfilling his mandate, Solana's goal has been to incorporate the Balkans -- including Serbia -- into the EU. In other words, Milosevic has been in the way. He isn't anymore.

This brings us to another leader who some believe may have been poisoned -- former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat. If you recall, Arafat was also seen by many as standing in the way of something -- reaching a final settlement in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. And, also in the eyes of many -- especially in Europe and the Middle East -- the Israeli/Palestinian conflict is seen as standing in the way of the EU's 1995 Euro-Mediterranean Partnership for Peace Read about it here  I  And here. Once again, we're talking about another part of Solana's Vienna mandate -- the Mediterranean region.

As I said earlier, the collapse of the Soviet empire has brought instability and intrigue. And, the geo-political sand is still shifting. But, as students of Bible prophecy, we may know where it's all going.
