What Herb thinks
Solana's Soft Landing

Will Mr. Sunshine soon "outshine" all the other European leaders?

Solana, as you may know, is Spanish for sunshine. And, it's interesting to see this writer for the EUobserver using the word "outshine" in a descriptive reference to the EU's soon to be new, super Foreign Minister, Javier Solana. The writer states:

Mr Solana will also join the Commission backed up by a powerful diplomatic service and a direct power line to the member states - making him a very influential figure. And someone who could outshine the commission presidentRead about it here.

As you may recall, the EU heads have appointed José Manuel Durão Barroso as the next Commission President. Barroso will be replacing Romano Prodi when Prodi's term expires in November. And, according to this same report, Solana and Barroso are already working on providing a "soft landing" for Solana when he officially takes his new post.

I like to fly. No, I don't have a plane. I don't even have a license to fly. But, I spend time on my flight simulator. And, sometimes I get to fly a real plane with a friend. And, one thing you need for a soft landing is a smooth place to land. Perhaps that's why this idea of providing a "soft landing" for Solana reminded me of something Scripture has to say about the first coming of the Lord. In Isaiah we read:

A voice is calling, "Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God" (Isaiah 40:3 New American Standard Bible).

This prophecy, of course, was fulfilled by the ministry of John the Baptist. John was a prophet who came from the desert to preach a message of repentance, and to point the Jewish people to Jesus as their long-awaited Messiah.

Is that what Mr. Barroso is doing for Mr. Sunshine?

Is that Solana's soft landing?
