God's people pray for the peace of Jerusalem. It saddens and angers us when we read about bus bombings and the killing of innocent Israeli people -- especially when it's little children. That's why a recent Jerusalem Post editorial so greatly tugged at my heart. It was clearly written out of deep conviction -- something rare today. But, the writer also conveyed a sense of an anxious desperation. Why the desperation? Because, the writer can't understand the reason the European leaders offer sympathy for the loss of Israeli lives, but refuse to recognize that the saving of those lives is a legitimate concern. The writer says: The road map has not saved a single Israeli life. The security fence has saved dozens of lives, perhaps hundreds. What kind of sympathy is it that would deny victims the means to defend themselves? Read about it here. Then, the writer ends by making a very astute observation about the EU's attempts at brokering Middle East peace. The writer states: We are perfectly aware that, ultimately, the "solution" is peace. The question is, will the European Union allow us to defend ourselves in the meantime? Or in defending ourselves, do we put the ultimate peace further out of reach? The fact that this is presented as a "choice" demonstrates how false it really is. This writer for the Jerusalem Post has hit the nail squarely on the head. According to both common scenes and Bible prophecy, the peace that's being offered to Israel is a false peace. It's a peace that will ultimately lead to Israel's destruction. God warned Israel through the prophet Jeremiah: They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, "Peace, peace," but there is no peace (Jeremiah 6:14 New American Standard Bible). And, the Apostle Paul picked up on this warning and applied it to a future day -- I believe our day. Regarding the coming Antichrist and his false peace, Paul said: While they are saying, "Peace and safety!" then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape (1 Thessalonians 5:3). Where did Paul get this idea from? He got it from Jesus (Matthew 24:15), and the prophet Daniel (Daniel 9:27). Friends, pray for the peace of Jerusalem. 09-01-04
