EU High Representative Javier Solana not only lands on his feet, he lands running. Only one day has gone by since the unexpectedly good turnout in the Iraqi election, and already Solana is spinning his EU web. How? By having his people assist in training the Iraqi security forces. The report says: Solana said the EU would now help authorities prepare a new constitution and assist in training the Iraqi army and police force Read about it here. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to live in a city that had a police force trained by Solana's people. If you recall, his EU forces are, as I write, occupying Macedonia and Bosnia/Herzegovina on so-called "police missions." And, when they leave, you can bet your boots the web will have been spun. By the way, when we consider Solana's new "Human Security Doctrine," it soon may not matter in what city we live. This doctrine doesn't recognize national borders. And, only a few days ago, Solana met with UN officials about forging closer ties with the UN's crime fighting agency. In other words, he's spinning the EU's web there too. Friends, that's global! 01-31-05
