As expected, the sudden and unexpected truck bomb explosion that destroyed the United Nation's headquarters in Iraq and killed the top UN Iraqi official is causing the international gang a lot of concern. And, as usual, they're turning to the resolution solution (Read about it here). The idea seems to be, if the Security Council can pass just one more resolution, the nations who opposed the Iraqi war may have a change of heart and send in their troops to help rebuild the nation. If you've been following my commentaries, you know I've been expecting some kind of internationalization of Iraq. My reason being, I've come to believe the rebuilding of Iraq could actually be the building of Babylon foreseen in the book of Revelation -- the great city that is to be destroyed in one hour with fire (Revelation 18:8-10. But, this is speculation and I am open to other possibilities. In fact, this morning I read an email from my friend Constance Cumbey. Constance disagrees with my views on Iraq. She points out how sailors out at sea will watch the smoke rising from Babylon's destruction (Revelation 18:17). And, she doesn't think the destruction of an inland city, such as Babylon in Iraq, could ever fit this description. Who does Constance think this Babylon is who is destroyed in one hour with fire? Although like me she is still open to other possibilities, Constance suspects it could be America. If I've learned anything from my discussions with Constance Cumbey, I've learned to take seriously what this insightful lady has to say. After all, not only did she author a #1 best seller, her book, The Hidden Dangers of the Rainbow, continues to sell 20 years later. This is what I think: I think to a certain degree we both may be right. I don't completely understand it yet, but I suspect America is somehow associated with the Babylon that is destroyed in one hour with fire. And, I also think the UN and Iraq are also somehow connected to this end-time event. This much I do know, I'm staying open. And, I'm staying tuned! 08/21/03
