I was reflecting on words my dad was sharing with me and my husband, Adam, this morning. He was talking about various ways people approach end-time prophecy. He said it's easy to get caught up with the latest dream, vision or popular teachings, but he reminded us of how important it is to stick to the Word of God as our final authority. It's like when Jeremiah came up against the false prophets of his day (Jeremiah 23:25-32). God told Jeremiah that when it comes to dreams and visions vs. the Word of God, there's no contest. "Let the prophet who has a dream tell his dream. But let the one who has my word speak it faithfully. For what has straw to do with grain?" declares the Lord. "Is not my word like fire," declares the Lord. "And like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?" (verses 28-29). That's not to say there's no place for dreams and visions. But it is to say that our focus needs to remain on that which is sure. This morning our family had a clear example of how fire is like God's Word. A wildfire broke out on a mountain a few miles from our house. We couldn't believe how quickly it grew from a few flames to covering an entire hillside. Fire is an awesome force. How much more so the Word of God. Thank you, again, for your prayers and support. My dad is in pain, and it's hard to see him declining. But he keeps reminding everyone he talks with that Jesus knows what He's doing. Yesterday, out of nowhere, he started singing one of his favorite hymns, "He lives," and we all joined in. I can't tell you how blessed I am to call this man my father.
