Perhaps now the true face of evil is seen. It's sad, though, that it may take the death of these innocent children to reveal it Read about it here I And here. But, isn't that always the case? Isn't it always the innocent who must suffer and die in order to expose the guilty? Who is to blame for these heartless killings? The obvious choice appears to be Hamas. But, there's something about these murders that remind me about the recent killing of the former Russian spy, Andrei Litvinenko. Perhaps it's the obvious part. Or, maybe it's the cold nature of the deed. No matter my reasons, both murders sprang from the same deep well of human evil. So, who is to blame for our capacity for such evil? The Bible tells us we're all to blame. And, it also tells us that those who say they don't have any blame are the worst of us. The Apostle John says: If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us (1 John 1: 8-10 New American Standard Bible). No, you and I may not have pulled the trigger that killed these kids. But, we too have done some evil deeds. And, for every sin, God's penalty is the same -- it's death. You see, the only reason that we humankind are still around is because God has shown us mercy. In Gaza we once again saw the true face of evil. It kills our children and it doesn't care. It seeks its own and will do anything to have its way. And, the worst part about it is, it's in the mirror looking back. In fact, it was this realization that led the great Apostle Paul to say: Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death (Romans 7:24)? Fortunately, Paul knew the answer to his question. Later Paul says: Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ
Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free
from the law of sin and of death.
However, we believers in Jesus know how our escape from death came. It sure didn't happen because we were good and did something right. In fact, it happened because of something utterly terribly that we humankind did. We killed the only truly innocent One who ever lived and walked among us. And, when we did it, we were exposed for what we are. The true face of evil. 12-12-2006
