It's being reported that Israel is telling the EU's Javier Solana that Israel will cooperate with the international community. The report says: Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said on Wednesday that Israel intended to work with the international community on the basis of the G-8 declaration which called for the deployment of an international supervisory force in south Lebanon to bring about a cease fire in the region Read about it here. Let's review what's happened. It all started on June 25 when Hamas operatives from Gaza captured a young Israeli soldier named Gilad Shalit. Soon Gilad's smiling face was published by every paper and on-line news source in the Western world. Next came the news that Hezbollah operatives had penetrated Israel from Lebanon, killing eight Israeli soldiers and capturing two. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert declared Hezbollah's attack an act of war by Lebanon and, on July 12, the Israeli/Lebanese War began. July 13, British Prime Minister Tony Blair consulted with the EU's High Representative Javier Solana and the United Nations Kofi Annan. On the 16th Solana suddenly appeared in Beirut paying a surprise visit to Lebanese Prime Minister Prime Minister Fouad Siniora. Meanwhile, a private conversation between Blair and President Bush revealed Blair conveying some kind of offer through Bush to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who was preparing a trip to the Middle East. Evidently taking Blair up on his offer, on the 19th Rice agreed to dinner with Solana and Annan before leaving to the Middle East on the 21st. Today, July 20, we see a picture of Solana who is already back in the Middle East talking to Israel. And, according to the report mentioned at the beginning of this commentary, Israel is willing to cooperated with the international community's offer of peacekeeping forces into the region. In other words, Israel will cooperate with Solana's intervention in the crisis. And of course, we can't fail to mention that incredible screen shot one of out FP members captured with his digital camera on the 17th of July.
