Hitler believed it was easier to tell a big lie than a small lie. People will always catch you in a small lie, he believed. But, if you tell a really big lie they won't. Why? Because, people don't want to believe that you could actually do to them such a dishonest and terrible thing. Last night an old friend told me a story about his days as a salesman. As part of his training he was to watch a more experienced salesperson closed a deal. After the sales presentation the prospect refused to commit. The experienced salesperson set out to uncover the prospects objections. He asked the prospect if he wanted to discuss the sale with his wife. The prospect answered no. After bringing up every possible objection he knew to ask, the salesperson finally asked the prospect what it was that was keeping him from making up his mind. The prospect responded by explaining that he was a Christian and he wanted to first go home and pray about it. To my friend's astonishment, without a moments hesitation, the salesperson reached out, took hold of the prospects hands, and led him in prayer. Naturally, the sale was made. The ironic thing was, the experienced salesperson wasn't even a believer. What does this have to do with today's news. It has a lot to do with it. You see, I believe the false religious leaders of our day know exactly what they're doing. And, they know that we know what they're doing too. But, if they make their lie big enough, we might fall for it. Here we may find a good example. According to this report Read it here, the Vatican's astronomer, Guy Consolmagno, is saying those who believe in creationism -- the fundamental, Bible believing Christians -- are the true idolaters. Friends, it's beginning. Our persecution may be literally right around the corner. The Bible says: And I saw another angel flying in midheaven, having an eternal gospel to preach to those who live on the earth, and to every nation and tribe and tongue and people; and he said with a loud voice, "Fear God, and give Him glory, because the hour of His judgment has come; worship Him who made the heaven and the earth and sea and springs of waters." And another angel, a second one, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who has made all the nations drink of the wine of the passion of her immorality" (Revelation 14:6-8 New American Standard Bible). And, the Bible also says: For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen (Romans 1:18-25). So, the Vatican's astronomer, Guy Consolmagno, is saying those who believe in creationism -- the fundamental, Bible believing Christians -- are the true idolaters. Now, if you're tempted by Consolmagno's words, whatever you do, don't say you need to first go home and pray about it. Just think about it: We're the idolaters?!! 05-06-06
