You could hire a thousand political analysts, and this picture of a little girl couldn't say it better: Now that the EU has become twenty-five nations, what does it mean? And I expect the many attempts to answer that question will be popping up from think tanks and editorial pages like unwanted spam on our computer. So what does it mean? It means the little girl has reason to worry about what she sees. The EU beast has become the strangest creature the world has ever seen. You see, today it has twenty-five rotating little heads. When it had fifteen heads, it was bad enough. Now it has twenty-five! To make matters worse, the poor creature doesn't even have itself together. Although it now has twenty-five heads on one body, they still all want to go in different directions. And, they all want their turn at being the EU beast's leader. Like I said, this little girl is smart enough to be concerned. And if she is concerned, we know others might be smart enough to be concerned too. In fact, that's why it's hard for me to believe things are really as they look. Question: If you were a member of NATO, shared a mutual defense treaty with nine other EU NATO nations, would you let the EU beast spin out of your control because of twenty-five rotating heads who all wanted to go in different directions? I don't think so. 05-01-04
