I'm a morning person. That means, in the morning I feel great. However, that also means at bedtime I can become a bit grumpy. As I was preparing to go to bed last night, I could hear one of today's leading prophecy experts talking on the bedroom TV. My hand suddenly hit the off button as if it was smashing a hairy spider. Why did this person's words anger me? Because, whether knowingly or unknowingly, I felt this person was misleading God's people. And, what really was bothering me, even after two years of trying to get the news out about what's going on in Europe, these prophecy experts were still saying the same old things. I recall thinking as I went to sleep, "I'm not going to say anything anymore. I'm just going to go my way and let them find out on their own." Yes, last night I was feeling sorry for myself. But, like I said, I'm a morning person. And, this morning I feel different -- especially after my morning Bible time and prayer. That doesn't mean I feel better about today's popular prophecy experts. I still think, despite all the good they have been doing in general, in some more specific ways they are misleading God's people. How? By holding themselves out as experts where they're not. For the most part, they are good at quoting Scripture and pointing out many interesting and relevant things. But, when it comes to what's really going on in Europe, they still don't seem to have a clue. For example, only months ago another leading prophecy TV personality, the one who I believe to be the closest to what's really going on in Europe, was still confusing details about the European Union with details about the Western European Union. Friends, nothing can be more misleading than someone who holds himself out as an expert when he isn't. And, unfortunately, that's the way I've come to feel about many of our popular prophecy experts. You see, not only do they have large followings, they also have their own good-old-boys club. And, if you're not a member of their exclusive club, the odds are your message isn't going to go anywhere. I don't mean this in a derogatory way. It's just a fact of life. And, here's where the rubber meets the road. Recently, I received an email from someone requesting that I post something on a thread at another message board about the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP). At first I was reluctant because I knew the board was strictly pre-tribulation and anything that even suggested the possibility of something else would be quickly deleted. Being respectful of the board's rules, I carefully posted what I knew about the ENP and went away. About a month later I tried posting again. Guess what? I had been banned. The good-old-boys club struck again. No, it wasn't one of today's prophecy experts that actually took the action to ban me. In fact, I think they would have considered what I wrote. I suspect it was one of their over-zealous followers who had interpreted what I posted as a possible threat to the popular view. The result is, on that board God's people only get a watered down version of the news. And, unfortunately, this is the biggest end-time discussion board on the Web. Sometimes I go to other message boards, like the one mentioned, just to see what's being said. And, I've never seen a time when God's people were more confused about Bible prophecy. Why is that? It didn't used to be like that. When I first began my study into Bible prophecy, most everyone knew exactly what to be watching for. Now, confusion reigns. Yes, it's a sad day when experts aren't. 02-15-05
