Yet, militarily, America is in no position to threaten anyone right now. And, the European Union is still trying to figure out what it is and what it isn't. It knows it's an economic super power. But, try as it might, it's still far from becoming a military super power. In the mean time, it doesn't have more time. Iran is becoming a strategic threat that's getting more serious every day. 

The only answer, of course, is for America and the EU to settle their differences and work together. And, sooner or later, that's what they're going to do. The only question is, who will be in the lead?

 The EU's High Representative, Javier Solana, would naturally like this job. After all, America may be able to win a war, but only the EU has the ability to win a lasting peace with its Barcelona Process. 

 When you think about it, Solana is in an awkward time right now. As far as regional and world security is concerned, Solana's got the titles and the mandates to get the job done. His problem is, there are some big obstacles in his way -- in fact, two.

For one, the Bush Administration is still at heart unilateralist and pushes American interests first. And for another, the appearance of the so-called EU big three -- France, Germany and Britain. These three most powerful EU member states won't get out of his way.

But, it's only a matter of time. The coming presidential election may bring a new face on the scene named John Kerry. However, for Solana, Kerry may not be a completely new face. You see, back in 1970, when Kerry was a leader in the anti-war movement, Solana was extending his stay in America so he could study the same anti-war movement. In other words, these two men where in the same places, at the same time and for the same leftist cause.

Was there an actual physical contact made between these two men? I don't know. Perhaps the FBI surveillance files have our answer. Unfortunately, the man in possession of the files reported a burglary last March where three boxes where take -- the three having to do with Kerry Read about it here. 

So, that's where we are now.
