In the world of diplomacy, the order of official visits means something. And interestingly, on his first official trip overseas after becoming the United Nation's new Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon paid a visit to a non-state entity. He went straight to Brussels to visited the top officials of the European Union (EU). And, the first EU official that Ban visited was High Representative Javier Solana. Earlier, meeting with Javier Solana, Secretary General European Council, Ban said the UN and the EU were determined to deepen their “special partnership” to tackle regional conflicts, improve global human rights and fight poverty, adding, “Basically our positions are on the same page” Read about it here.

The reason this report should be of interest to us students of Bible prophecy is by knowing what's going on in the EU is being guided by the 10-nation Western European Union (WEU). You may have noticed that the report said that Ban also met with NATO's Secretary General, Jaap De Hoop Scheffer. This too is part of the WEU's agenda.
